Friday night September 2nd at the Manitowoc County Speedway kicked off the first of three nights of racing for the Scott Thiel Motorsports #64 Sprint car over the Labor Day Weekend. Scotty picked a 33 pill which set him to start 6th in the heat race event. Heavy track conditions made passing pretty difficult but Thiel managed to grab two spots and finished 4th, allowing him to have a 9th place starting spot for the night's 30 lap A-Main event.
The A-Main went green and Thiel struggled in the first several laps, trying to figure out where the car would work best. A few cautions and red flags took place in the first half of the event. After returning to green flag action again, Scotty jumped up to the high side and began to pick of several positions. A caution took place on lap 25 and Thiel was sitting in the 6th position. He restarted on the bottom and knew he had to get to the high side again quickly. It was a short dash to the finish and Scotty could never get the run going into the corner to get up top. Trying to make a pass going into turn 3 on the last lap, a car got under Thiel and took a position away. Scotty would come across the line in the 7th position.
The Saturday night portion of racing at Manitowoc was cancelled due to extensive rain over the night.
The STM crew worked later that night to prepare to run Sunday at the 141 Speedway in Fransic Creek, WI with the IRA Sprint Cars. The crew pulled into the track, along with 26 other teams, to end up watching it rain for an hour. The track crew was still preping the track and ordered the cars to come and pack quick before attempting hot laps. Just as the cars were going on to the track, another storm rolled through and completely washed out the program.
Overall it was an alright weekend for the STM #64 Sprint Car. A decent run Friday night turned into the only night of racing for the entire weekend. STM would like to thank all of their great marketing partners for the 2011 season:
