Inside Line Promotions – SELINSGROVE, Pa. (May 3, 2021) – Alex Hill displayed a fast race car on Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour’s return to Pennsylvania.
“Our results didn’t show it, but I thought we had a pretty good night,” she said. “We had poor starts in our heat and the feature due to things beyond our control. We were able to move forward after that.”
Hill’s pill draw placed her in the third starting position in a heat race.
“I started behind the polesitter and he didn’t have a good start, which meant I didn’t have a good one either,” she said. “That forced me to drop back to about sixth or seventh. I was able to pass some cars and made it up to fourth when I almost smacked the wall. I checked up and my teammate, Dylan (Westbrook), got by me on the last lap and I finished fifth.”
Hill started third in her B Main with the top three finishers advancing to the A Main.
“We had another poor start in the B Main,” she said. “A car came down and chopped me and I had to check up, which let another car past me. Then I ran fourth for most of the race and caught the third-place car. He broke and brought out the caution. I was in third on the restart, but J.J. Hickle slid under me and passed me going into the first turn. I should have entered the turn low instead of high, which is where I had run most of the race.”
A fourth-place result in the consolation race narrowly missed a transfer into the feature.
“We used a provisional to start at the back of the A Main, but it was dusty and difficult to see so I just hung back and pulled in soon after the race started,” she said. “It wasn’t worth the risk to race in those conditions.”
Last Friday’s scheduled race at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., was canceled because of extremely windy conditions.
Hill will move on to compete in an ASCS National Tour doubleheader this weekend at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich.
“I raced at I-96 once before and remember enjoying it,” she said. “It’s another track that’s somewhat close to our home so it’s nice to be in our area, even though it’s difficult for people to cross the border to come see us. It’s also nice to race the same track two nights in a row.”
