(Bill W) September 7, 2011 – The initial year for the Monster Energy™ Sprint Car Series has been a resounding success, and the fun continues this Sunday night when the stars and cars of the series hit the Peoria Speedway in Peoria, Illinois. It has been a long time since 410 sprint cars have raced on the ¼-mile high-banked oval, and the anticipation is reaching a fever pitch!
Peoria Speedway will be the eleventh different track that the MOWA regulars have attempted to tame. With a dozen races down, and five yet to be contested in September, the points are tightening up in the inaugural season. In twelve main events, the series has seen ten different winners.
It seemed Jerrod Hull may have a stranglehold on the first place prize money and a ride provided by Indy Race Parts at January’s Chili Bowl, but Jimmy Hurley has been on a roll lately, and pulled within 23 markers of the leader. Robbie Standridge is a steady third, but Jim Moughan Jr. is just thirteen points behind him. Just two points separate fifth place Korey Weyant from AJ Bruns, who won his first series feature last weekend at his hometown Lincoln Speedway.
Chris Urish, Jordan Goldesberry, Joey Moughan and Jeremy Standridge round out the current top ten. Drivers like Logan Faucon, Bret Tripplett, Mike Hess and Brett Samonds loom just outside of the top ten spots in the championship race.
Gates open at 4:30 p.m. in Peoria on Sunday with hot laps scheduled for 5:00 and racing to follow! Grandstand seats are $18, with Seniors $15. Kids 8-15 are $5, 7 and under are FREE. For more information, visit www.PeoriaSpeedway.com!
