Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (April 27, 2021) – Gunner Ramey is looking to rebound this weekend after a barrage of incidents kept him from advancing into the night’s A Main last Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway.
The Terry Doogs Racing driver didn’t make it to the initial green flag start of his heat race before the trouble started. A fellow competitor misjudged the drop of the green flag and jumped the start, causing a chain reaction that resulted in a damaged front axle for Ramey’s No. 21 machine.
Ramey and his crew went to work repairing the car to make it onto the track in time for the B Main. He started 10th and passed three cars by the time the checkered flag was waved to finish seventh, which was one position shy of making the main event.
“It just seems we never have any good luck at that place,” he said. “We’ve had mechanical problems, engine failures and accidents there in the past and we had another accident there this weekend. Hopefully we can get that monkey off our backs at Lucas Oil Speedway one of these nights and just have a clean run.”
Despite the setback over the weekend, Ramey continues to have a positive outlook.
“It’s racing and those types of things happen,” he said. “You just need to brush them off as they come and prepare for the next night.”
The 18-year-old driver is set to race twice this week. Ramey will compete on Thursday night at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., with the ASCS Warrior Region and again on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.
“I’m so excited to get to Lakeside and avenge last weekend,” he said. “When you have a rough night at the track, you just want to put it behind you as fast as you can.”
