Home Sweet Home! FINALLY back to our home track Perris Auto Speedway! it's been over 500 days since the powerful 410 sprint cars have careened around the 1/2 clay oval. Even with the restrictions placed by the State Of California and Riverside County it was very apparent that the fans missed witnessing the action just as much as the 24 teams that filled the pits did!
Haulers lined up at the pit gate in the early morning despite entry being at noon, just chomping at the bit to get back to the action.
Cody, Austin & Logan Williams were on track to pay tribute of friends lost this past year. But for those boys it was to honor a man that was more than just their past car owner. Jack Jory was a huge part of their lives from the day they were born. A friend, a mentor, and someone that would hold a special place in their hearts for the rest of their lives.
Deemed as The # 1 Sprint Car Fan on the West Coast, Shawn McDonald was one of the race family members that met our Good Lord in 2020. To honor him a special presentation was given to the driver who qualified 6th & another award to whoever finished 6th in the Main Event. Shawn’s family gathered around a grandstand plaque for photo ops and handed each gentleman a crisp $100.00 bill.
Not that there’s really an art to pulling a qualifying pill, teams still take a spin around the track, size up the condition of the clay and ask themselves, do I hope to pull an early # or being one of the last in rotation? Occasionally the bingo ball roller decides to play nice and feed you the spot you hoped would be the magic ticket. So, last night Austin let us know, he hoped for # 15 ( not much leeway there!! ) He did say 50, didn’t he??!! AS luck would have it, the 50 spot played right into team Moose’s hands, as Austin turned the fastest lap, 16.33 - well, that was until the series Champion and man with the most Quick Times, Damion Gardner would go out 2 cars next and bump Austin right off the top spot!! ( 16.20 ) Dang, not again!!!!
3 fast paced heat races ticked off almost in record time with the victors of each pocketing a cool $100 bill!

There’s nothing like the sound of 24, 410 fire breathing sprintcars as they come off of turn 4 to take the green flag! Starting 5th, Austin was shot out of a cannon and by the back straightaway was already in 2nd. Of coarse, as luck would have it, the yellow caution flag flew for a spinning car and it would be a total restart. 3rd times the charm and the race was on with Cody Williams on point with Austin coming fast and furious.. A mothers finger biter, the 2 brothers battled side by side, trading the top spot lap after lap, until Austin wound it up and made the pass. While this battle was going on, Damion was on the move with a head of steam. Inching closer and closer to Austin until he pulled up along side and that battle was on … with 11 laps to go, Damion took the lead and never looked back. Austin brought the 92 Moosemobile home in 2nd with Charlie Davis in 3rd.
As the top 3 rolled to a stop on the front straightway to collect their Trophies, Austin was greeted with a overwhelming group of fans new and old. On hand in
the pits last night was The Moose Crew: Paul, Jim, Gary, Rich, Logan. & RC. But there were many other supporters in the pits all evening: a large gathering of Jim’s family ( his brother Dave & his wife, Christy, Christy’s Mom Pam & her husband Paul, Jim’s son, Chris) Also hanging in the pits and witnessing the flying dirt was Mr.John Saroyan ( of Saroyan Lumber ), his son Jeff and Amanda.
It was great to have such amazing support all evening and hope they enjoyed all the wheel to wheel action that is USAC/CRA sprint car racing!!!!
