Runner-Up Finish for Covington at Park Jefferson

CG Motorsports. Glenpool, Ok. (April 22nd, 2021) Matt Covington took on Park Jefferson International Speedway this past weekend with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour, finishing 2nd to Blake Hahn.

Matt was able to capitalize on a good draw and pick up the heat race win. The result placed him in the redraw where he pulled the pole position for the A Feature. At the drop of the green, Matt had the lead secured until a caution reset the field prior to the first lap’s completion. On the restart, Matt once again held the lead. But only for a few laps before Hahn was able to get by him on the bottom in turn 2. The 95 Triple X/Shark Engines mount couldn’t quite match Hahn’s pace, giving Hahn some distance as they headed into lap traffic. Covington remained in 2nd until the checkers waved.

“We had a good car Saturday night, just not quite as good as Blake’s,” stated Matt. “I wish we could have stayed out front after getting to start on the pole. But Hahn was a little better getting off the corner in the beginning of the race. I changed things up a little going into traffic and was able to close the gap a bit. But then I started struggling with my car and that took away any chances of getting the lead back. Battling the car and issues, I had to focus on not making any mistakes to hold off Hickle, pressuring me from 3rd. I would have liked to get the win, but we’ve only been outside the top-5 twice so far this year and those were still top-10s, so I don’t really have much to be disappointed about.”

This weekend Covington and the team are playing it by ear according to the weather, considering Lucas Oil Speedway or Knoxville Raceway.
