Amantea Picks Up First Career Win at Linda’s Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – HAMLIN, Pa. (April 21, 2021) – Joey Amantea made a last-minute decision to head to Linda’s Speedway Friday night pay off big when he scored his first feature victory of the 2021 season behind the wheel of a 600cc wingless micro sprint.

The win was Amantea’s first career triumph at the track in Jonestown, Pa., after four years of trying. He also scored a seventh-place finish on Saturday at Hamlin Speedway.

“One of our main sponsors was over at Linda’s and we made a last-minute decision to head over there after Bedford canceled,” he said. “My dad wasn't really sure we wanted to go, but obviously we made the right choice and I couldn’t be happier.”

With frigid temperatures in the forecast, Amantea’s original plan of competing with the USAC East Coast Wingless Sprint Cars at Bedford Speedway in Bedford, Pa., on Friday changed. With racing still on at Linda’s Speedway, Amantea loaded up his micro sprint and headed to the track.

He began the night by winning a heat race from the outside of the front row and he earned the eighth starting spot in the feature via a redraw. An early wreck allowed him to advance to fifth and with a handful of laps to go Amantea was sitting in third. With two laps remaining he made his move for the lead and held on to take the checkered flag in his first micro sprint race of the season.

“What an unbelievable night to come out in our first micro race of the year and win right away,” he said. “I was lucky to avoid a wreck early and I really felt my car coming to me toward the second half of the race. To finally get a win at Linda’s was really special and I was thrilled.”

Amantea headed to Hamlin Speedway the following day and started out the night by advancing three positions in a heat race to finish sixth. He lined up 12th for the feature and worked forward five positions to take the checkered flag in seventh for his third top 10 of 2021.

“The track was pretty much one lane and I knew from the get-go we were going to need to start up front to be good,” he said. “We were able to pass a few cars, which was nice, but ultimately we just kind of rode around and stayed out of trouble.”

Next up for Amantea will be a trip to Spirit Auto Center Speedway in Swedesboro, N.J., this Friday to race his wingless micro sprint before a Saturday night trek to Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., to compete with the United Racing Club 360 winged sprint cars. This will be his second trip of the year to Port Royal Speedway, but his first at the Juniata County oval in a winged sprint car.

“I’m pretty excited to get to Port Royal and I feel confident that we can come out of there with a decent finish,” he said. “I felt good there running the wingless car up top on the track and I know that’s the fast way around there. We’re going to try to stay out of trouble and log some laps and hopefully we can come out of there with something to be happy about.”
