Inside Line Promotions – NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. (April 20, 2021) – Roger Crockett ran into a rare DNF last Saturday at Park Jefferson International Speedway, which hosted Round 3 of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour season.

“We got there a little late,” he said. “We had an extremely busy work week so we were a little behind.

“We got a really good start in our heat race, but had someone drive through the back of my car. That spun us out and put us at the tail. I think we were going to come out in third before the incident. That was the difference of being toward the front of the feature or buried. The next restart didn’t go well and we got shoved off the track in a racing deal. We were able to catch back up to the field and passed one car.”

Crockett’s sixth-place finish in a heat race lined him up on the inside of the ninth row for the A Main.

“In the feature we were up to eighth or ninth and the rear axle broke,” he said. “Our car was really good. It had started vibrating for a few laps before the axle broke. I felt like we would have been able to reach the top five because our car was really handling well.

“It’s pretty rare that we have a DNF. I knew something was wrong. I thought the wheel was packed with mud. There was a yellow and I swerved around trying to get the mud out. I took back off on the restart and felt the vibration wasn’t as bad. We went a lap and then it was starting to feel worse. I just started to let off the gas to pull in when it broke. It wasn’t hairy until I slid off the track and we were on two wheels. We got pretty lucky.”

The DNF gave Crockett a 17th-place finish and dropped him to seventh in the championship standings. However, the next race to redeem himself is this Friday at U.S. 36 Raceway near Osborn, Mo.

“I’ve only run there twice,” he said. “We generally have good speed. Last year we came out of the B Main and rallied to sixth or something. I like going there. It’s a fun race track. The heats can be a little tough, but the track is generally pretty good in the feature.”

Crockett’s career-best outing of second place came during his debut at the track in 2019. Last year his charge from 17th to sixth earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.
