Ramey Captures Top-15 Result During Knoxville Raceway Debut

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (April 20, 2021) – Gunner Ramey scored a 12th-place result last Saturday during his debut at Knoxville Raceway.

The Terry Doogs Racing driver was scheduled to compete on Friday at 300 Raceway in Farley, Iowa, but the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour race was called off because of the weather. The team then headed to Iowa to tackle the season opener at the famed half-mile oval.

The 18-year-old admitted there were a few nerves before hitting the track for the first time. Ramey also fought a loose car in qualifying as he timed in 18th quickest. He started on the pole in his heat race and lost the lead on Lap 1 to Knoxville native Joe Beaver, but regained control of the top spot on Lap 2 and never looked back.

“I learned that Knoxville is way different than any other place I’ve raced at before,” he said.

Ramey started the feature in the 12th position and he battled inside the top 15 throughout the 18-lap race before finishing 12th. Ramey said that with better track position he could have posted a better finish, but it was key to get the seat time.

“By the end of the night I felt really confident in what we brought to the track and I’m really excited to come back here and compete with them,” he said.

Ramey is turning his focus to a race at U.S. 36 Raceway near Osborn, Mo., this Friday night with the ASCS National Tour. He will then venture to Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., on Saturday for the 10th annual Impact Signs, Awnings, Wraps Open Wheel Showdown. That event is co-sanctioned with the ASCS Sooner Region and ASCS Warrior Region.

“I think U.S. 36 Raceway really fits my driving style well,” he said. “We’re also looking forward to putting forth a good effort on Saturday since our sponsor Impact Signs, Awnings, Wraps is also the title sponsor of the race.”
