Inside Line Promotions – BARTLETT, Tenn. (April 19, 2021) – Jason Sides is one of only five drivers heading into the World of Outlaws Bristol Throwdown this weekend with sprint car experience at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Sides competed in June 2001 during the most recent World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader at the famed pavement oval that has been covered with dirt.

“It wasn’t real easy,” he said. “We crashed the first night. I didn’t get hurt or anything. Someone blew a power steering line and was up against the outside guardrail down a straightaway. We were right behind him. We hit and then someone ran over us from behind. It tore the car up pretty bad and I remember we worked on it in a parking lot.”

Sides is hoping to have a less-eventful weekend this Friday and Saturday when the track in Bristol, Tenn., welcomes the World of Outlaws for the first time in nearly 20 years.

“My goal is to hopefully make both shows and not tear anything up or hurt any motors,” he said. “We’ve taken some measures and changed a few of the rod ends and radius rods to make it a little stronger. I did have a wing built for that place that’s a little stronger with thicker material.

“The track is so fast and kind of narrow. When something happens in front of you there’s no place to go and you can’t get slowed down. Watching some of the late models and modifieds, it’s like the brakes aren’t sufficient because they have to pitch it sideways and they end in a big pile of cars. It all happens so quickly.”

Sides is coming off a dormant weekend as World of Outlaws races at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla., and at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, were postponed because of the weather.
