Inside Line Promotions – NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. (April 19, 2021) – Elliot Amdahl notched a top-15 finish with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour last Saturday at Park Jefferson International Speedway while shaking off the rust from a seven-month absence from his driver’s seat.

“Our night didn’t go quite as well as we hoped,” said Amdahl, who finished 13th in the main event in Steve Ziebarth’s No. 86 sprint car. “Our goal was to finish top 10 with ASCS. We tried a different setup since this wasn’t a regular point race for us and struggled a bit. But I guess we were fairly pleased with our night overall, especially since we’d been away from the track for so long and we were racing against drivers who have a lot of laps already this year.”

Amdahl started his first heat race of 2021 in third and finished fifth.

“I was pretty nervous to start with since I hadn’t raced this year, but the rust got knocked off pretty quickly,” he said. “I had to start on the bottom, which wasn’t the place to be on that track. I got caught in the slick on the start and dropped back a bit. But once we got going I regrouped and it was nice holding off a driver like Roger Crockett. Unfortunately, I didn’t earn any passing points and had to start deep in the field for the feature.”

Amdahl rolled off in the 16th starting position for the night’s main event. He gained a trio of positions to finish 13th.

“I passed all three cars in the first lap or two,” he said. “I got to the top a little late in turns three and four, otherwise I may have done a bit better.”

While the evening didn’t go quite as well as hoped, Amdahl is excited about driving for Ziebarth during Midwest Sprint Touring Series events this year.

“Steve is my 305 and 410 crew chief and I drove his 360 car a few times last year,” Amdahl said. “We did well together every race. We’ll go back to our previous setup and I’m confident we’ll do well, especially with our new motor from Outkast Racing Engines. The power from that engine took some getting used to. I’m really looking forward to racing his car this year.”

Amdahl will take this weekend off from racing while attending the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series spectacle at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tenn. He plans to return to action on April 30 at Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa, with his 305ci sprint car.

“I’m really looking forward to racing at Rocky with the 305,” he said. “We’ve had good success with our 305 and we are hoping to add that track to the list of tracks we’ve won at. Also, we have a lot of great sponsors from that area so that gives us extra incentive to do well there.”
