Inside Line Promotions – TULSA, Okla. (April 13, 2021) – The podium streak continues for Frank Flud, who added two more last weekend to push it to 15 consecutive races.

Flud’s plan to compete in Missouri with the Lucas Oil National Open Wheel 600 Series presented by Hi-Plains Building Division was altered because of Mother Nature. He stayed home to tackle the Non-Wing Outlaw division on Saturday and Sunday at Port City Raceway.

Flud was slowed throughout the two-day event as he ran a Stock Non-Wing car, which was down on horsepower compared to his competitors.

“On Saturday when we were able to roll the bottom I felt like it was kind of an advantage not having too much power if that’s possible,” he said. “On Sunday when it was a majority of the race ripping around the lip I could tell I was not in my Outlaw car.”

Flud hustled from eighth to fourth place in his heat race on Saturday. That locked him into the 13th starting position for the main event.

“You had to be able to stick the bottom and pull out of the hole,” he said. “My car didn’t have too much power to spin the tires through the center. Other drivers would wash out on exit and I’d sneak by. Or they’d miss it on entry and I’d get below them. I got lucky at the beginning and a few guys bottled up so I got a few positions, but it was mostly pick one off at a time.”

Flud charged from 13th to the runner-up result.

He returned to the bullring on Sunday and set himself up even better after maneuvering from eighth to second place in a heat race. Flud lined up on the pole for the main event, but this time the track didn’t play out in his favor.

“I tried to run the bottom, but the top was too good,” he said. “I led the first three or four laps until the top got rolled in. Daison (Pursley) was able to drive around me. I felt like a sitting duck just waiting for the next person. I won’t make an excuse out of it because I’ve won with it before, but I felt like it would have gave us a fighting chance if we had an Outlaw car. I rode in second waiting for the next guy to make his move. Joe B. (Miller) was very polite and then Jake Nail was able to sneak by on the bottom with two laps to go.”

Flud’s third-place result marked his 19th top five in 20 races this year.

He is scheduled to return to Port City Raceway this Saturday.
