Kaleb Johnson Eager for Knoxville Raceway Season Opener This Saturday

Inside Line Promotions – SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (April 12, 2021) – Kaleb Johnson is looking forward to the Knoxville Raceway season opener this Saturday, particularly after having a racing doubleheader washed out last weekend and enduring an abbreviated opening weekend due to a mechanical problem the prior week.

“We’re getting anxious to race anywhere and against anyone,” said Johnson, who had planned to compete at the South Dakota Sprint Car Nationals at Park Jefferson International Speedway in Sioux City Falls, S.D., last weekend before it fell to weather. “We’re looking forward to trying some new things at practice on Friday at Knoxville and then hopefully having a good night of racing on Saturday.”

Johnson is once again focusing on competing at all of Knoxville Raceway’s 360ci winged sprint car events this year. He’s hoping to build upon a solid first season there last year when he finished ninth in the championship standings and was the 360 Rookie of the Year Award winner.

While he could race much closer to home on Saturday nights, Johnson feels the five-hour tow to Southeast Iowa every week is worth it for him and his team.

“It’s called the ‘Sprint Car Capital of the World’ for a reason,” he said. “Racing there gives my sponsors and myself more exposure than racing a 360 sprint car anywhere else in this area.

“I think the competition there is some of the best in the country and is as tough as ever. We feel that the best way for us to improve is to race against the toughest competition we can. It gets to be kind of a long haul every Saturday, but we feel it’s worth it in the long run.”

One of the priorities for Johnson and his team at Knoxville Raceway this year will be to consistently perform well in time trials.

“Knoxville is one of the few tracks where 360s qualify every week so it’s about the only place you get experience doing that,” he said. “Qualifying well there is especially important because it helps you in your heat race, which in turn helps you in the feature.

“I think one of the main factors in qualifying well there is experience. The top five in qualifying there each night are usually drivers who can run the bottom really well. We were able to do that at times last year, but not as often as we’d like. We need to get our car more consistent to do that this year.”
