YORK HAVEN, Pa.: Steve Davis and his 602 Modified team had a choice heading into the upcoming racing weekend.
On one side, he could point race at Bridgeport Speedway. The other option was to head to BAPS Motor Speedway for the FXG Sign and Label/Dickey’s Barbeque Pit 602 Modified Six Pack Series.
On Saturday, Davis chose the latter. The end result was Davis sitting in Victory Lane at BAPS Motor Speedway after claiming the 25-lap main event.
“This is something we hoped for,” Davis said. “It’s Bridgeport’s points opener tonight, and we’re standing right here, so I think we made the right call.
“We can point race anytime, but a series like this, tracks like this that do this for these guys, we can’t thank them enough. Showing them support is what they need.”
Jeremy Ott was victorious in the Gene Latta Ford Central Pa. Legends presented by Baker Door Company main event, with Brian Walls taking the checker in the Street Stock feature. Robert Nicklow and Michael Goodwin were winners in Limited Stock and Extreme Stock action, with Roland Brown taking top honors in the Classic Car division.
As for Davis, he lined up fourth on the grid in the 602 Modified main and wasted little time getting to the front. Jonathan Swift took the early lead and led the first two circuits before Davis surged out front on Lap 3.
Davis was the class of the field. He survived two caution periods and the competition to take the victory by a hefty 3.23 seconds at the finish.
“I just tried to avoid the couple of rough spots,” Davis said. “Once you get across from them, you can run the corners. If you hit them sideways just wrong, you ended up out there by the fence.
“A lot of guys need a series like this. It’s really great that they put on a series like this. I can’t thank the track enough, and I can’t thank the fans enough for coming out, because if you guys weren’t here, we wouldn’t be here.”
Mike Schanel started third and finished second. Michael White, Skylar Sheriff, and Swift completed the top five.
It was a typical Central Pa. Legends showing for Ott. He charged through the field from 12th and was tops in the field.
Bill Diehl started on the outside pole and led the first 14 circuits. Ott knifed through his fellow competitors before wrestling the top spot away on the 15th circuit and driving away at the finish.
Alex Robinson, Travis Perry, Stephen Wurtzer, and Scott Houdeshell completed the top five. Wurtzer, Ott, Robinson, and Seth Kearchner were heat winners for the 36-car field. Rick Hartwig and Benjamin Goldsmith won the consolations.
In Street Stock feature action, Walls passed early leader Niklas Stoudt to take the win. Stoudt settled for second, with Jasen Geesaman, Jim Palm, and Eric Tripp completing the top five.
Ricky Weaver Jr. took the lead at the start of the Limited Stock feature, but his position was short-lived. Nicklow, who started started sixth took the lead on Lap 3 and never looked back over the race distance.
Travis Brown, Weaver, Matt Chronister, and Robbie Carroll completed the top five. Brown, who started 10th, won Hard Charger honors, which was presented by Elite Racing Imagery.
Goodwin started on the pole of the Superior Homes Extreme Stock main event and took the lead on Lap 2 from Bob Scott Jr.
There were three cautions over the race distance, and Goodwin survived them all to take the win. Hunter Fulton, Austin Hogue, Patrick McClane, and Bill Powell completed the top five.
Robert Brown made a last-lap pass to take the win in the Classic Car event. Jimmy Combs led the first 19 circuits, before Brown made the winning move.
Combs settled for second, with Joe Brown, Dylan Brown, and Ron Grove completing the top five.
