Dover Hustles From 10th to Record First Season-Opening Win Since 2013

Inside Line Promotions – GREENWOOD, Neb. (April 6, 2021) – Jack Dover posted his first season-opening victory since 2013 last Friday at I-80 Speedway, where he charged from 10th to earn the trip into Victory Lane.

The performance also garnered the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars. Dover backed it up by finishing sixth on Saturday during the Spring Meltdown finale.

“I’m happy with how the weekend went overall,” he said. “Coming out with a win on the first night out with the new car and new shocks was great. Track experience played in our favor and we have some new FK shocks that were working good along with our fresh Speedway Engines engine.”

Dover advanced from eighth to fourth place in a heat race, which lined him up on the outside of the fifth row for the A Main.

“We ran short on time before the feature and didn’t get to make all the adjustments we wanted,” he said. “It played out well though. We got to second right away. I was searching for rubber because as windy as it was I knew the track would take rubber.

“I found the rubber in turns one and two about three quarters of the way up. It started to do the same thing in turns three and four. Once I got to (Terry) McCarl I knew I had one shot. If I didn’t get by him he’d find the rubber the next lap and I wouldn’t have a shot to get by him again. I’ve been in that situation and you think you have a pretty good car and you don’t want to search because whatever you’re doing is working. It was one of the circumstances where running second was better. I made a lot of ground up on him one time coming out of turn four. I was close enough I knew I could slide him and we did that in turns one and two.”

The move worked as Dover captured his 14th triumph in his last 45 races during 360ci winged sprint car competition at I-80 Speedway since 2013.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday with another high pill draw for Dover, lining him up seventh in his heat race.

“I struggled the first couple of laps,” he said. “I searched and found a line that was best for us. I was able to work up to fourth. In probably one or two more laps we could have got third.”

Dover started the main event 10th for the second straight night.

“On the initial start and the first couple of restarts we were good,” he said. “I got up to fourth and a caution came out. They’re doing a new deal with double-file restarts similar to ASCS, which put me on the inside. There was some water on the bottom of turn four. I hit it and it kicked the rear of my car out and we fell to 10th. About five laps after that rubber started coming in and I was lucky to work my way to sixth. That one was on me. I knew the water was down there and I just got into it on that restart.”

Dover will ride the momentum from his strong start to the season into a Midwest Sprint Touring Series doubleheader at Park Jefferson International Speedway in North Sioux City, S.D. The South Dakota Sprint Car Nationals is Friday and Saturday.

“We’ve had a lot of good runs there,” he said. “I think we won opening night up there last year so that gives us confidence. The runs we had last weekend is huge as well.”
