Inside Line Promotions – PEVELY, Mo. (April 5, 2021) – Jason Sides earned his first top 10 of the season last Saturday at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55.
“Only about 80 more to go to make for a good season,” he joked.
Sides invaded a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader at the high-banked oval, where he ran into misfortune during Friday’s opener. Sides qualified 16th quickest and was riding in a feature lock-in position during a heat race when mechanical woes resulted in a DNF.
“The heat race was going pretty well and we hurt a motor so we had to change motors and regroup for the Last Chance Showdown,” he said. “We got through there and started at the tail end of the feature. We weren’t great, but the attrition worked in our favor.”
Sides, who placed sixth in the Last Chance Showdown to transfer into the final starting position in the main event, maneuvered from 24th to 16th in the A Main.
Saturday’s weekend finale played out much better. Sides qualified fourth quickest and he finished second in a heat race to make the dash.
“The next night we qualified better and the whole night was a lot better,” he said. “We had a little better pill draw and we were better, too. Qualifying well like that gets you on the front row of your heat race and then if you can maintain you make the dash, which sets you up for success.”
Sides placed sixth in the dash to line up on the outside of the third row for the main event.
“Right on the start it didn’t go real well,” he said. “Someone chopped down in front and I got tight. Two or three went by so I lost five or six spots on the very first corner. Then we got into a rhythm.”
Sides dropped to 13th early in the race before rebounding to score the 10th-place result.
“I was 11th on a caution with 15 laps to go and we got Donny (Schatz) on the restart,” he said. “We ran 10th the rest of the race.”
Races this weekend will be on Friday at Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, Ind., and Saturday at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind.
