Inside Line Promotions – SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (March 29, 2021) – Kaleb Johnson will kick off his 2021 racing season this weekend at I-80 Speedway, which hosts the Spring Meltdown on Friday and Saturday.
“We’re all pretty excited to finally get back to racing,” he said. “We’ve been waiting a long time for this and now suddenly it’s here.”
While Johnson has little experience at the dirt oval in Greenwood, Neb., he will be looking to shake down his car while getting accustomed to being behind the wheel again following a long layoff.
“I only raced at I-80 once before – about two or three years ago – but we didn’t get a chance to race the feature because it was rained out after the heat races,” he said. “I-80 reminds me a bit of Knoxville, except with a lot more banking.
“Generally, in the past we’ve usually had a few things to work out at our first race of the season. But last year our opener went well and we had a top-five finish. I think as our team gains more experience we’re better prepared each year and those opening-race bugs have become less of an issue.”
As experience aids his team’s improvement each year, better equipment also bolsters confidence in their performance.
“We ran a Moyle engine last year and were very happy with it, especially with the help we received from them each week,” he said. “We were able to add a second Moyle during the offseason and that gives us more confidence for this year.”
Johnson and his team are looking forward to a return to a normal racing season following a limited and sporadic racing year in 2020.
“It will be nice to get back to a more normal season this year,” he said. “Our team has always been about doing our best and having fun while we’re doing it and that’s what we plan to do again this year.”
