After the previous weekend getting rained out, the STM #64 Sprint car returned back to racing action at the Manitowoc County Speedway Friday night and the Plymouth Dirt Track Saturday night.
Scotty drew a 27 pill Friday at Manitowoc and would start 5th in his heat race event. The race would go green to checkered and not a lot of passing was taking place. Thiel would end up finishing 5th and taking a 15th place starting spot for the night's 30 lap A-Main. After the drop of the green, a wrecked occured going into turn one and the field would have to line back up and try the start again. It went green and Scotty began to search for the fastest line. He started to work the bottom side of the track where not to many people were running and started to pick off several positions. After a number of yellow flags, Thiel found himself sitting 5th on one of the last restarts. After going back green, Scotty picked off one more spot and would take home a 4th place finish.
Saturday would take the team to the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds where Scotty would pull a 12 pill and take the outside front row starting spot for the 10 lap heat race. After going green, Thiel jumped up to the high side and never looked back. A red flag occured with 6 laps in and Thiel had a entire straight-a-way lead on the field. After going back green; Scotty did just the same and worked the high side line til the checkered flag flew. He would get the heat race victory and with the invert, capture a 5th place starting position for the 25 lap A-main event. At the drop of the green, Scotty searched around for a good line. He again started to work the bottom side of the track. As lap traffic was approaching, Thiel started to change up the line. His car was just starting to come in at the half way point of the race and started to make up some ground on the leaders. A caution would fly on lap 18. The lap cars stayed in position with the lead lap cars and Scotty knew it would be tough to get around them and catch the leaders with only 7 laps to go. After returning to green flag action, Thiel would hold his own and round out the night finishing in the 4th position, again!
Overall, it was a really good weekend for the entire STM team. After taking a few weeks off and coming back with a new car, having decent results, and now come back with a top 5 weekend made it all up.
