Inside Line Promotions – TULSA, Okla. (March 23, 2021) – Frank Flud doubled up for the second time this season, winning a pair of features on the same night to push his victory total to four in the first seven starts of the year.

Flud competed in three micro sprint classes last Saturday at Port City Raceway, where he captured the Winged Outlaw and Winged ‘A’ Class main events and charged from 12th to fifth in the Stock Non-Wing feature.

“It went really good,” he said. “We made it out of the heat race and straight into the feature in all three classes. They had a ton of cars so we felt good about that alone. We were able to capitalize throughout the features.”

Flud won a heat race from the pole to open the Stock Non-Wing action. That lined him up on the outside of the sixth row for the A Main.

“In non-wing feature we came up a little short,” he said. “We missed the setup a little and a few times I decided to save the car for the following week instead of going ahead to drive it in there. The way they were racing at the beginning of the race I felt like we’d have a lot of yellows. I was trying to be cautiously aggressive. About halfway through it started getting strung out. I don’t know if everyone’s cars were going away or mine was coming to me, but I was able to make some moves to start going through there. Obviously the expectation is to win, but to come out of there unscathed and run in the top five after starting where we started, I was pretty happy.”

Flud maneuvered from fifth to second place in his Winged ‘A’ Class heat race. He topped that by rallying from fifth to the triumph in the main event.

“We had a lot of good battles in ‘A’ Class throughout the race,” he said. “It was after halfway when I got the lead. We were in traffic and I snuck by for it. We had a couple of late-race yellows. There seemed to be quite a few people dropping out at the end and that helped us hold on.”

Flud was also efficient throughout the Winged Outlaw competition, winning a heat race from fourth and the feature from the pole.

“We had a pretty good battle at the beginning of the race with (Jeffrey) Newell and then we were able to set sail,” he said. “The top was the preferred line. In my mind it was pointless to take him out to win on the first lap. I had to show some patience. He got the lead right away, but we had a yellow and on the restart I was able to get enough momentum to pull a slide job. That broke his momentum and we kept slide jobbing each corner for a couple of laps. I was able to clear him and put some distance on him.

“Me and Newell have raced each other for 20 years and will probably race each other for another 20 years. We don’t give each other an inch, but we also don’t force an inch on each other.”

Flud has a four-race weekend on tap with the POWRi Engler Machine and Tool 600cc Micros. The Turnpike Challenge runs Thursday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla.; Friday and Saturday at I-44 Riverside Speedway in Oklahoma City, Okla.; and Sunday at Port City Raceway in Tulsa, Okla.
