Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (March 22, 2021) – Roger Crockett earned a Hard Charger Award and a podium finish during his season-opening doubleheader last weekend.

Crockett was strong throughout most of the 48th annual Spring Nationals at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, which welcomed the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour for a two-day show.

“It wasn’t bad,” he said. “We were a little bit off for some reason when we got there. We didn’t feel bad, but we didn’t have the speed we needed.”

Crockett rallied from a high pill draw on Friday, maneuvering from eighth to sixth place in a heat race. An eighth-place finish in a qualifier relegated him to a B Main. Crockett placed second to transfer into the main event. He continued to march forward in the feature by rallying from 18th to seventh. The 11 positions gained were the most by any driver.

“We didn’t start in a great spot in the heat race,” he said. “The biggest problem in our heat was two cars in front of me tangled. I had to let off the gas and it left me in last. That definitely didn’t help anything. I feel like if we had our speed better we should have made something out of it.

“We changed gearing and some little things. That got us the speed we needed in the A Main. Also, our nozzles got plugged in the main event. If that didn’t happen I think we would have had a top five. It was good because a lot of times when we’d start that far back we wouldn’t overcome. I feel we made the best of a night that wasn’t the best for us.”

Crockett gained positions each time he was on the track on Saturday, powering from fourth to second place in a heat race and from fifth to third place in a qualifier. That ranked him fourth in overall points to garner the fourth starting position for the A Main.

“We had a lot more speed right out of the gate,” he said. “We got through the heat good and we were good in the qualifier. Like most people in the pits we thought it’d probably lay rubber in the feature. We left our car more neutral than trying to tighten it up. That bit us. The car was not very good in the feature, but at one point I thought we still had a shot. We just couldn’t reel them in when we needed to get in there and battle.”

Crockett’s third-place result was his fifth podium in his last nine races at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

Crockett will head to Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas, this Thursday to open an ASCS National Tour tripleheader that also features races on Friday and Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.

“We’ve never been to Superbowl Speedway, but we’re very confident going to I-30 Speedway,” he said. “Our car has been good and we ran fantastic there last year. Our small track stuff always seems to be really good.”
