Wilson Charges to Top 10 During Opener and Posts Podium on Night Two to Open Season Strong

Inside Line Promotions – CLEWISTON, Fla. (Feb. 9, 2021) – Greg Wilson earned a podium result during his season-opening weekend for the first time since 2009.

Wilson guided his Hercules Tires, Ohio Logistics and DNC Hydraulics backed team to a seventh-place showing last Friday and a third-place run on Saturday during a USCS Series doubleheader at Hendry County Motorsports Park.

“When you’re contending for wins you can’t be upset,” he said. “It was a pretty good first weekend of racing. There were some good cars there. When you come out of the box and run decent both nights and compete for a win, it’s exactly what you want.”

This year marks a back-to-basics style that focuses on simplicity and fun. Both were featured last weekend as Wilson kicked off the event by advancing from seventh to sixth place in a heat race on Friday. That locked him into the 15th starting position for the A Main.

“It’s pretty tough when you draw bad no matter where you’re racing,” he said. “Plus, being the first race of the year we weren’t really on it in the heat race. We got in a tangled mess to start the feature, but kept on. We went into turn one and four or five cars got together and stacked up. I was about stalled out and somebody hit me in the back and got me going so we made it through. We restarted around the same place and worked our way through the field. We were one of the better cars at the end of the race.”

Wilson’s eight positions gained were the second most en route to his seventh-place showing.

The team continued to march forward on Saturday, winning a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. The feature inversion lined Wilson up third for the main event.

“We had a better pill draw and we took advantage to win the heat race,” he said. “Then we started the feature in the thick of things and we battled for the win all the way to the end. When you contend and you’re up front, that’s what your goal should be. We got to the lead for a lap or so. The race between Mark Smith, Ryan Timms and I when we got to traffic was pretty wild. It was a good race. They could just maneuver a little better than we could. When I’d hustle it I’d get over the cushion and about into the fence. But we were probably as close to Mark Smith as we’ve been in a while so that’s a positive.”

The team will take the momentum from the third-place run and remain in Florida this week to compete Thursday through Saturday at East Bay Raceway Park near Tampa during the Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s.
