BAPS Motor Speedway to Feature First PA Sprint Speedweek Race Since 2006
York Haven, PA (January 29, 2021) – It has been 15 years since Stevie Smith parked his car on the front stretch of BAPS Motor Speedway (formerly Susquehanna Speedway) after a PA Sprint Speedweek victory. On Sunday, June 27, another name will be added to the impressive list of Speedweek winners at the York Haven oval.
“The way the July 4th holiday falls in 2021, it set up a 10 race Speedweek, our first since 2018,” said Alan Kreitzer, a member of the PA Sprint Speedweek association. “Adding another $7,000 to win event to Speedweek continues our efforts to increase the attractiveness of the series to our great fans and the 410 sprint car teams.”
“PA Speedweek attracts the ‘best of the best’ sprint car drivers to mark their name in the history books,” said BAPS Motor Speedway owner, Scott Gobrecht. “And we are beyond excited to host this year’s Sunday night show.”
The first Speedweek race held at BAPS was in 1991 and the win went to Steve Smith. In total, 16 Speedweek races have been held at the 4/10 mile oval with wins going to nine different drivers. Six of those drivers are in the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame; Steve Smith, Donald Kreitz, Lance Dewease, Fred Rahmer, Stevie Smith, and Greg Hodnett.
