Scotty Thiel and the Scott Thiel Motorsports team pulled into the Manitowoc County Fairgrounds last Friday night after the two week span of not racing. The crew put together a brand new Triple X Chassis just the night before and burned the midnight oil to have everything complete for a two day race weekend.
Thiel started 5th in the heat race event and after taking the green, he fouled out two plugs in the motor and ended up finsihing 6th. Scotty would have to come through the B-Main, where he started on the pole position. The drop of the green for B-Main happened and Thiel never looked back, taking the checkerd flag by nearly a full straight. That finish would allow Thiel to start 17th for the night's 30 Lap A-Main event. At the drop of the green, Thiel fell back a few spots trying to figure out where the car was good on the track. After a few laps, he started to pick a few spots. A late race charge got Thiel up into the 12th position and then the checkerd flag flew. The race went green to checkerd. It was a decent night back out for the team, a caution or two would have been beneficial to get the field bunched back up and maybe grab a few more spots.
"This new car worked pretty well tonight. It was super fast in that B, just needed a caution or two in the main to get up there better." Scotty stated after the race.
Saturday night brought the team to the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds and the Plymouth Dirt Track. Scotty started 3rd in the heat race event and after the 10 laps were completed he finished in the 2nd spot, giving Thiel an 8th place starting spot for the night's 25 lap A-main event. At the drop of the green, Thiel searched around for a line that was fast for how his car was set up. He started working the middle to low lane and picked up a few positions. The car wasn't the greatest up on the top groove and after 25 laps were completed, Scotty finished in the 6th position.
Overall, it was a decent weekend for the STM team. Bringing out a brand new car and have two solid runs with it is nothing to complain about. STM would like to thank all of their great marketing partners who helped along the way in 2011:
