Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (Aug. 7) – It wasn’t how he imagined third place, but he’ll take it.
Logan Forler finished third in the 360 Nationals at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., on Saturday night when a trio of top-five cars crashed on the final lap in turn three, allowing the 18-year-old to slide by for a podium finish.
“I passed a few cars in the first few laps,” the Lake Havasu City, Ariz., resident said. “The track was really even so you couldn’t really pass anybody. Then, going into turn three on the last lap, the second place, fourth place and fifth place cars all crashed so I ended up third.”
It was his second third-place finish in the past two Saturday’s at the 3/10-mile dirt oval.
Forler started the feature 10th, which is where he finished in points after Friday’s preliminary event. After going out second to last in qualifying, Forler had the 13th quickest time on a track that had been used up.
“It would have been a lot better to go earlier,” he said. “The track was a lot slower as qualifying went on.”
Forler finished third in his heat race to lock himself into the feature, which he started seventh. However, the right rear bar went bad and he hung on for eighth place – his 16th top-10 finish of the season.
“Friday put us 10th in points and the top six were able to race a scramble to determine Saturday’s feature lineup,” he said.
Forler accumulated 512 points on Friday, which was only 14 out of sixth place.
He will race at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., on Saturday. He charged from eighth to the victory in his last appearance at the 3/8-mile oval on July 9.
