Inside Line Promotions – TULSA, Okla. (Jan. 7, 2021) – Brenham Crouch made the most of his return to micro sprint competition last week inside the River Spirit Expo Center, which hosted the 36th annual Lucas Oil Tulsa Shootout.
Crouch guided his family owned team to a top-10 result in the famed outlaw winged division – the most prestigious class that featured nearly 200 drivers during the marquee micro sprint event.
The four-day spectacle began last Wednesday when Crouch won a heat race in the outlaw non-wing division. He also placed second in his outlaw winged heat race and fourth in his winged ‘a’ class heat. Crouch captured another heat race victory on Thursday in the stock non-wing division.
“The heat races were good,” he said. “A few things kept us from winning all four races, but we won both our non-wing heats. Through the qualifiers I made a couple of mistakes, but every time I hit the track I felt like I was going forward. You can’t ask for more than that at an event like that.”
An outlaw winged qualifier win locked Crouch directly into the main event. He also made the show in the stock non-wing class after winning a B Main and transferring through the Last Chance Qualifier.
“The main goal was one race at a time,” he said. “I wasn’t thinking of anything later in the day until it was time for that race.”
While his weekend ended in the B Main in the outlaw non-wing and winged ‘a’ class divisions, Crouch was a contender in the two features he qualified to run on Saturday. He overcame an early incident to rally from the back of the field to a 16th-place showing in the stock non-wing feature.
“I got up to 16th or so after starting 22nd,” he said. “Two cars got together on the cushion as I was setting the car. I had nowhere to go and spun the car to avoid wrecking into them. I had to go to the back, but with a lot of laps left I was able to roll back up to 16th. I felt like we had a top-10 car.”
The event concluded with Crouch posting a ninth-place outing in the 55-lap outlaw winged feature.
“The track was on the bottom and one lane,” he said. “Every once in a while I’d move up and try to make the top work, but it wasn’t working. I battled with (Brady) Bacon and with (Tyler) Courtney for a while. We passed some cars here and there, and then at the end I got a couple more to come away with a top 10. It was a fun week.”
Crouch will be off for the next month before kicking off the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Series season on Feb. 5-6 at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla.
