Baxter Venturing to Tulsa Shootout This Week for Micro Sprint Action

Inside Line Promotions – LIBERTY HILL, Texas (Dec. 29, 2020) – Blaine Baxter is looking forward to returning to the track after an extended absence.

Baxter will make his second visit to the River Spirit Expo Center in Tulsa, Okla., for this week’s 36th annual Lucas Oil Tulsa Shootout, which runs Wednesday through Saturday.

“I’m really excited to get back on the track this week,” he said. “The Shootout is a great race with lots of cars. I might be just a little nervous since this will be my first time racing in several months, but I’m sure that will go away once I’m back on the track.”

Baxter will be looking to build on a solid performance turned in last year in his first appearance at the Shootout. While competing in both the winged ‘A’ class and winged outlaw divisions, Baxter charged forward and passed multiple cars each time he was on the track. He closed out his Shootout with a win in the C Main, but the victory was later disallowed when his car was two pounds light at the scale.

“I feel a lot more comfortable going into this year’s race than last year,” the 12-year-old said. “Before I went to the Shootout last year I raced it on my simulator. But it was way different than the simulator. I thought we did pretty good last year for our first time and not knowing the track.

“I have more confidence this year because we know a lot more about what to expect for a track and the racing.”

Baxter will compete solely in the winged outlaw class this year, along with close to 200 other drivers.

“It’s exciting to race in a big event with so many good drivers,” he said. “I would be happy to make the A Main on the final night against a field of cars and drivers like that.”
