Nick Fillman, USAC East Coast Sprint Car Series
While Alex Bright of Collegville, PA is no rookie when it comes to wingless sprint car competition. Nor to Open-wheel racing as a whole. He was a rookie in 2020 and was able to collect the Rapid Tire, USAC East Coast Sprint Car Series honor as Rookie of the Year in his, and Hummer Motorsports debut to series competition.
The team had previous plans of competing almost all of the events on the series trail in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and the team decided to chase after victories in high dollar micro sprint events in the mid-west during the beginning of the summer missing the first four events of the season. The team made their series debut at the Selinsgrove Speedway in August where Bright would start on the pole of the feature before ending the event with a 5th place finish.
Bright and the Hummer Motorsports team would make all nine feature events they attempted with the series in 2020 collecting two victories, first at the Port Royal Speedway in August, and then feature number one of the “Twin 20’s” Program at the Big Diamond Speedway in October. The team would end the year with nine top five finishes in nine feature starts, two victories, and four heat race victories, along with RoY honors.
Plans have Bright and Hummer returning to competition on tour in 2021, along with high paying 600cc micro sprint events, and some winged 360 sprint car racing which the team ventured into in November during the season finale of racing at the Bridgeport Speedway. Look for Bright and Hummer to try and replicate the same speed and consistency on tour in 2021 that they had found in 2020 and be a threat for multiple victories again on the series trail.
