Inside Line Promotions – HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. (Dec. 9, 2020) – Connor Sheffield will continue to race on both pavement and dirt in 2021 thanks to the support of Nature’s Care and Wellness.
The Perryville, Md., located business specializes in the medical cannabis industry and will be a part of Sheffield’s racing endeavors for the third straight year. However, the team at Nature’s Care and Wellness is much more than just a marketing partner.
“There is no medication to help my condition,” said the 16-year-old Sheffield, who has endured Gastrointestinal Dysmotility Pseudo-obstruction. The rare condition led to an ileostomy and it wasn’t until recently that Sheffield was able to eat food.
“Somebody told us to talk to NCW,” he added. “They introduced us to medical cannabis. Before I was eating with a feeding tube. Now I can eat food and I’m thriving and growing.”
Sheffield uses a micro dose of cannabis oil to be able to manage his condition and eat regularly.
“The dosage is minor,” he said. “I could drink the whole bottle, which lasts two weeks, and it wouldn’t equal the amount in a joint. The days that we race we do not use it.”
Sheffield was recently nominated for Cannabis Patient Advocate of the Year by the non-profit organization Explore Maryland Cannabis thanks to his advocacy. Sheffield helped create a law in the state of Maryland titled Connor’s Courage, which allows students to take legally prescribed medical cannabis oil at school in the nurse’s office just like any other medicine. His hard work resulted in a courage award through America for Safe Access last summer among other honors.
“We promote awareness of medical cannabis because we believe in the medical side of it,” Sheffield said. “It has changed my life. Nature’s Care and Wellness has played a big part in it. They helped guide our medical regiment. You have to figure this stuff out on your own. A lot of it is trial and error. They guided us and helped us.
