Inside Line Promotions – STOCKTON, Calif. (Nov. 13, 2020) – Garet Williamson is a young driver and he certainly understands that there are going to be nights when things don’t go his way.
It’s what makes the sport so difficult. Williamson found that out last Saturday night when he visited the Stockton Dirt Track for the first time.
The track was rough and Williamson endured misfortune in his heat race and the B Main, which kept him out of the main event. Still, the Missouri driver took the positives out of a night that could have been better.
“It was, definitely, a tough weekend,” he said. “It was like a supercross track and all you can do is take the positives out of it. You learn a lot on a track like that. Everyone is racing on the same track and you’ve got to take things away to get better.
“We qualified good. We don’t get to qualify that much, so that was good to qualify decent. If I can take that and qualify decent the rest of our time out there, that will set us up good for the night and it will help.”
Williamson timed in fifth quickest in his group, which put him fifth to start his heat race. Three laps in, he broke a bleeder and finished sixth in the final rundown.
Williamson started third on the grid in the B Main. Heading into turn one he suffered a shock problem and pulled off the track.
“You come out here, and you want to do well, but you can’t be great every night,” he said. “You have to take away the good things from it. A lot of cars got torn up, and if you go out and tear something up it’s not much better than not even racing.”
Williamson’s qualifying effort was the bright spot and he hopes to do it again this Saturday night when the Bryant Paver Motorsports team heads to Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif., for the Kings of Thunder 360s event.
“We look forward to Hanford,” he said. “Hopefully, the track is better and we are running a little bit better. I’ve never been there, but it’s the same as last weekend. You watch some videos, see where it’s dominant early in the night, watch a few things and go in with an open mind.”
