Inside Line Promotions – CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 10, 2020) – Kerry Madsen capped the 2020 season with a top-five performance during the World of Outlaws Last Call on Saturday evening at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.
The Killer Instinct Crossbows sponsored Big Game Motorsports driver enjoyed a fast race car throughout the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader.
“It kinda summed up our whole year,” Madsen said. “The potential was there and we were real quick.”
Friday’s opener got off to a quick start as Madsen set quick time in his qualifying group. He then won a heat race from the pole position to lock into the dash. A third-place result in the dash gave him the third starting spot for the main event.
“Before we took the green flag the right rear tire started going down,” he said. “We were losing positions right from the start and it got so low we had to stop for a flat tire. We found a pinhole in the tire. It was a shame because we were really quick. We got a new tire and got back to 13th in conditions that weren’t the best in terms of visibility and safety. You had to be super careful running the top with zero visibility.”
Madsen salvaged a 13th-place result after restarting at the back of the field.
Speed was again on display on Saturday as Madsen timed in third quickest in his group. He captured a heat race win, but this time lined up last – eighth – in the dash. Madsen gained one spot to start seventh in the A Main.
“On Saturday we qualified well and raced well in the heat race,” he said. “Once again you couldn’t really attack because there was zero visibility. You’d feel where the cushion was. The car in front, you could key off where they were turning. If there was a stranded car you wouldn’t have seen them.
“We had an awesome race car. We passed for third one time, but couldn’t hang onto it so we ended up fourth.”
The fourth-place showing was Madsen’s seventh top five of the season with the World of Outlaws. He finished as the highest ranked competitor who didn’t run full time with the series for the second straight season.
