Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (Oct. 20, 2020) – Danny Sams III saved the best for last.

The Sams LaMountain Racing driver produced his most complete weekend of the season with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour during the final doubleheader of the year last Friday and Saturday when Devil’s Bowl Speedway hosted the 47th annual Winter Nationals.

Sams III hustled from 20th to 14th on Friday before he claimed a 15th-place result on Saturday. It marked his first time this season with back to back top 15s during ASCS National Tour competition. The weekend also boosted him to a 10th-place finish in the championship standings.

“The weekend went really good,” he said. “We were sitting 11th in points rolling in. We did everything we needed to do to lock into the top 10, which was our goal to heading into the season.

“We were good the first time we showed up to Devil’s Bowl last year and we built off of that. We had a better weekend this time.”

Sams III picked up two positions in a heat race Friday to place fourth. A runner-up result in a B Main earned a transfer into the main event. Sams III continued to pass cars in the feature, driving from 20th to 14th.

“I think we had a top-10 car,” he said. “With the cautions and lapped cars moving around it slowed us down, but we were happy with the progress we made. I was one of the only cars running the bottom in turns three and four. I was able to hook it. Most people were running around the top and it was a longer way around. I went to the top when I needed, but the bottom worked for us.”

Sams III backed up the strong outing on Saturday when he finished third in a heat race and 15th in the A Main.

“I was supposed to start fourth in the heat race, but the driver starting second didn’t make it so I moved up a row,” he said. “I wasn’t in the preferred line and lost a spot right away, but I held onto third and it was good enough to lock us into the feature.

“I was up to 12th at one time in the feature and got pushed up in the middle and lost my ground. It was a racing deal. Overall, I was happy to gain a spot and we learned a lot.”

The 15th-place result was the eighth of the season for Sams III.

The team will take the next two weekends off before racing on Nov. 6-7 at Hendry County Motorsports Park in Clewiston, Fla., with the USCS Series.
