Inside Line Promotions – COLUMBIA, Mo. (Oct. 15, 2020) – Although the season is winding down Garet Williamson still has more work to do.

This weekend’s 47th annual Winter Nationals at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, is the season finale for the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. But for Williamson, who has been a Rookie of the Year contender, it’s another opportunity to build momentum and carry it into next year.

“It’s been crazy with everything going on, but honestly, it’s flown by,” he said. “I can’t believe we are already here. It seems like we were out in California (to start the season) a couple of weeks ago.

“It’s been good. I’ve had a lot of fun. We’ve learned a lot. And it’s been a successful year for our rookie year, but I’m excited to get into this weekend and see how we do.”

Williamson is ninth in the championship standings entering the two-day show. The 20-year-old Bryant Paver Motorsports driver is looking for continued consistency at a track he’s never raced at.

To close the gap on the competition, Williamson is watching film in an effort to learn the subtle nuances of the Texas facility and how the track surface changes during the night.

A good performance could be critical not only for next year, but the rest of the season. Williamson plans to head west to California in the beginning of November and he will face plenty of stiff competition in the Golden State.

“It’s huge,” he said. “I think we are sitting ninth in points so I don’t think we can get farther than that. It’s cool to be in the top 10 our first year with ASCS. We wanted to be Rookie of the Year, but Dylan Westbrook’s been fast and had a really strong year.

“This isn’t it for us. We’re actually going to California the first week of November so we want to do well this week and build on it. We want to have some confidence heading out there, especially with how good the guys are out there.”
