Bacon Bags Third USAC Sprint Car Title – Eyes Leffler Memorial & Harvest Cup this Weekend

Lonnie Wheatley, WINCHESTER, Ind. (October 9, 2020) – “The Macho Man” finished out the 2020 USAC Sprint Car season in the same way in which he started it. In victory lane.

And with it, last Saturday’s triumph at Lawrenceburg Speedway’s Fall Nationals, came a third career USAC National Sprint Car championship for Brady Bacon and the 12th for the Hoffman Racing No. 69 Sprint Car team.

“Obviously, the dynamics are a little different than the first two, so this one is probably, actually, a little bit sweeter,” Bacon revealed. “A little more of the weight of the responsibility fell on my shoulders and my guys for this one at my shop. We built this team with supporters that have been with me for a long time – Fatheadz Eyewear, who’s been with me for 10 years; there’s Mike and Megan Eubanks, who have been with me forever, just a lot of people. Gene Franckowiak’s been with us for a few years. We have some newer people who are playing a bigger part now as well and it’s just great to reward them with a championship. That’s the sweetest part, rewarding the people that make it possible.”

After timing in third quickest among his qualifying group, Bacon made a crucial late-race pass for the fourth and final transfer position that secured a front row outside starting position for the $10,000-to-win series season finale.

Bacon went on to capture his sixth series win of the year aboard the Fatheadz Eyewear entry and 12th overall to secure a third USAC Sprint Car crown when it seemed in question as season’s midway point.

“At one point, I didn’t think we really had a shot,” Bacon admitted. “Grant had pulled out to such a big lead and was really consistent, and typically once that happens, it’s hard to chip away. He had a lot of things happen all at once and that’s when we got on a roll.”

With that title tucked away, action resumes for Bacon this weekend with a pair of USAC Midget events aboard the Hayward Motorsports Oilfire No. 19 at Friday’s Jason Leffler Memorial at Wayne County Speedway in Wayne City, IL, and then Saturday’s Harvest Cup at Haubstadt, Indiana’s Tri-State Speedway. Bacon will also be in MSCS Sprint Car action on Saturday aboard the Longworth No. 410.

“Winning the Leffler in 2016 was a special win for us, so it would be an honor to get another win there,” Bacon commented. “And then we can try for two more at Haubstadt. We’ve been good in the Longworth Sprint Car and I felt really good with the progress we made in the Hayward No. 19 Midget a couple of weeks ago, so we’re looking forward to a good weekend.”
