Inside Line Promotions – KOKOMO, Ind. (Oct. 2, 2020) – Brenham Crouch made the main event during his first career start at Kokomo Speedway last Saturday when he capped his weekend debut with the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Series.
Crouch soaked up the experience from his first two USAC National starts behind the wheel of a Toyota Racing sponsored Keith Kunz Motorsports midget.
The weekend began on Friday at Gas City I-69 Speedway in Gas City, Ind., where Crouch qualified 26th quickest before he placed seventh in both a heat race and the B Main. It was his first appearance at the track and the night ended only one spot out of making the main event.
“The first night I struggled with the track and couldn’t get a hold of it,” he said. “I think that had a lot to do with my experience. I’m learning every time I hit the track and go to these new tracks. I’m trying to soak everything up
“When we got to Kokomo Speedway on Saturday, I’ve ran laps at that track on iRacing so my timing was a lot better.”
That showed as Crouch qualified fifth quickest out of the 31 drivers. He then placed fifth in a heat race and won the B Main to transfer into the main event.
“I’m super pleased with our qualifying result,” he said. “It was great to win the B Main and make the main event. On the first lap I went to miss a pileup and stalled it. I was mad at myself and felt like I could have got a top 10 if that hadn’t happened. After restarting we found the middle pretty early and I drove it in deeper in the corners. I was happy with how I read the track. I’ve learned that you have to be pleased when you accomplish good things and not dwell on things that go wrong.”
Crouch rallied from the early incident to charge from the back of the field to a 12th-place result, which was his second-best finish in a midget.
Next up for Crouch will be his debut at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill., this Friday and Saturday for the Gold Crown Midget Nationals with the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League.
