Nienhiser 7th with WAR Before Part Failure Knocks Him Out of Lead

PETERSEN MEDIA: Continuing to hone his craft aboard a non-wing sprint car, Paul Nienhiser would finish seventh on Friday night at Lake Ozark Speedway before a part failure on Saturday night knocked him out of competition during his two nights of action with the Lucas Oil POWRi WAR Series.

“It was a fun weekend of racing,” Paul Nienhiser said. “I am really enjoying running the non-wing car, and am really enjoying proving a lot of people wrong who didn’t think I could be this competitive.”

Friday night Nienhiser kicked his weekend off in Missouri by lining the CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil/Mason Sound/Innovative Design backed No. 9x machine up in the fourth row of his heat race.

Able to acclimate to the Lake Ozark Speedway quickly, the Chapin, IL driver was able to slice and dice his way through traffic and record a third-place finish.

On a night that saw a ton of guys work through the field on heat race action, Nienhiser’s point total put him ninth overall and placed him in the fifth row of the feature event.

Getting off to a great start in the feature, Nienhiser really had his entry working as he quickly jumped into the third position as he chased after Brady Bacon and Landon Simon.

Able to reach the lead duo, Nienhiser didn’t quite have enough to get by either of them and would drift back to fourth before a late restart bunched the field back up. Under the stoppage, Nienhiser’s right rear would seal up and his car would turn evil on him in the final five stanzas.

Switching into damage control mode in the closing laps, Nienhiser would keep his mount inside the Top-10 as he capped the night off with a seventh-place finish.

Confident from Friday’s performance despite the struggle in the closing laps, Nienhiser came out strong during Saturday night heat races as he would advance from sixth to finish second.

Finding himself atop the point standings, Nienhiser would lead the field to green as he searched for his first non-wing sprint car feature event win.

Not getting the jump he wanted, Nienhiser would slip back to fifth in the early goings, but once he settled down was able to make up all that lost track position as he powered back into the race lead.

Following a mid-race caution, the ensuring restart would see Nienhiser start to slow as an issue with his fuel pump caused him to lose power. Running up front, Nienhiser didn’t quite notice how much power he lost as he would fall off the pace completely and endure damage to the rear of his car as he tried to get off the racing surface.

With the fuel pump issue and the damage to his machine, Nienhiser’s night would come to an early end.

“It was fun to go racing with just my girlfriend and myself with limited spares,” Nienhiser added. “We had one of my crew guys show up and lend us a hand on Saturday, but really cool to be that competitive with how we showed up. Really want to get a win without the wing very badly.”

Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil, Mason Sound, Innovative Design, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Wessler Bros. Agency, Bob Hawks Auto Body, Littleton Storm & Timber, Fierce Herbicide, Sunstoppers Window Tinting, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Indy, Rider Racing Engines, Kaeding Performance, Smith Titanium Products, Vortex Wings, Signature Signs and Design, and Team Simpson for their continued support.

2020 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-28, Wins-3, Top 5’s-8, Top 10’s-14
