Paul Nienhiser Pockets Win with MOWA; Second with WAR

PETERSEN MEDIA: Competing against both the MOWA and WAR on Friday night at Tri City Speedway in Granite City, IL, Paul Nienhiser nearly completed the sweep as he won with the wing and came up just short in non-wing action.

“It was great to get a win, and have some fun in the non-wing car,” Nienhiser said. “I really didn’t know what to expect since it had been about a year since my first crack at non wing racing and had a blast. Thanks to Matt Hummel with FK Indy for hooking me up with a great shock package that allowed us to have the night we did.”

Drawing the seventh starting position in his MOWA heat race, Nienhiser would flex his muscle and rack up the passing points aboard the CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil/Mason Sound/Innovative Design backed No. 9x machine has he worked his way up to finish second.

Sitting as the nights high point guy, Nienhiser would find himself in the redraw where the two-pill put him on the front row of the feature. Fighting an engine stumble on the start, Nienhiser would still put himself out in the lead when things got underway.

Setting the pace, Nienhiser would soon find himself in traffic and admittedly was too nice navigating through the slower cars and it allowed Joe B. Miller, and Carson McCarl to close in on him.

Swapping the top spot for several laps, Nienhiser would actually fall back to third late in the race and traffic was tough on the lead trio and it turned into a high-speed game of chess.

With five to go, Nienhiser would power back into the top spot, but the yellow would fly and negate his pass. The final restart of the night saw the Chapin, IL driver power into the top spot and he would never look back as he led the final five markers to pick up the win and move to within three wins of the most all time with MOWA.

In WAR Non-Wing action, Nienhiser got his night off to a nice start as he ended up sixth fastest overall in warmups, but his draw put him back in the ninth starting position for heat race competition.

Not quite knowing what to expect in racing action, Nienhiser would do a great job of searching all over the speedway as he fought his way to a second-place finish in that heat as well and was also high points guy for the night with the WAR.

Lining up by points in the WAR feature, Nienhiser would lead the field to green as he looked to double up on feature event wins for the night.

Getting the jump in this race as well, Nienhiser would lead early as Garret Aitken closed in and would soon challenge for the top spot. At the race’s halfway point, the Chapin, IL driver would fall back to second, but he would not give up on the top spot.

On the slick surface, Nienhiser’s confidence would grow lap by lap as he closed in on him in the closing laps. Pulling even as the white flag was displayed, Nienhiser nailed the bottom in one and two as the leader rode the cushion.

Heading into three and four, Nienhiser would look to make a big move on the last lap however slower cars would impede his progress and make his move challenging.

Opting to stay on the bottom, it would be a drag race to the checkered and Nienhiser would come up just short and run second in this feature.

“It was awesome to be that competitive in the non-wing car,” Nienhiser said. “I had a ton of fun. Thanks to Dennis McQuinn for hooking us up with a non-wing right rear and helping us out since all we have are winged right-rear tires. Hoping to end this year with a bang with whatever races we can hit in the next couple months.”

Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil, Mason Sound, Innovative Design, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Wessler Bros. Agency, Bob Hawks Auto Body, Littleton Storm & Timber, Fierce Herbicide, Sunstoppers Window Tinting, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Indy, Rider Racing Engines, Kaeding Performance, Smith Titanium Products, Vortex Wings, Signature Signs and Design, and Team Simpson for their continued support.

2020 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-26, Wins-3, Top 5’s-8, Top 10’s-13

ON TAP: Nienhiser will be back in action this Saturday and Sunday for more non wing action as he battles with the WAR at Lake Ozark Speedway in Elden, MO.
