PETERSEN MEDIA: Friday night at the Placerville Speedway, Shane Stewart piloted his Silva Motorsports ROCKSTAR/Makita/A.R.T. to a fourth place finish, locking himself into Saturday night’s feature on the tricky slicked off racing surface.
By way of winning the second heat race from the pole, Stewart lined his Pro Bilt Construction/Lucas Oil Products/Wesmar powered machine up in the ninth position for the 30-lap contest.
With the race getting underway, Stewart was quickly on the prowl, as he advanced to the 7th position on the first lap before the caution flag waved.
Utilizing the restart to his advantage, Shane was then able to power his Finley Farms/Cross Creek Trucking/Palmero Properties past Sean Becker in the third and fourth turns by way of a text book slide job to over take the sixth spot.
As the next five laps clicked off, Stewart applied heavy pressure to fifth running Gary Wright, before sliding in front of the veteran on the seventh lap as the caution again waved negating Shane’s pass putting him back in the sixth spot.
On the ensuing restart, the ROCKSTAR/Makita machine was able to slide up in front of Wright for fifth, as he then set his sights on Jonathan Allard.
Over the next six laps Stewart applied heavy pressure to Allard as he worked both the top and bottom of the extremely slick race track looking for an opening to get past the 2011 Dirt Cup Champion.
On the 14th marker, Shane was able to again slide in front of Allard in turns three and four, to over take the fourth spot, and the caution fell on lap 15 in Stewart’s favor as the field was bunched up and he was on the rear bumper of third running, Brady Bacon.
The restart on lap 15 saw Shane continue to hound Bacon, as the duo ran side by side at times, with Stewart continuing to challenge for the third spot.
On the 27th lap, Stewart was able to muscle his way past Bacon, but the caution again flew negating Stewart’s pass.
The last three laps saw Stewart continue to pressure Bacon, and as the checkered flew, Bacon narrowly beat Stewart to the stripe as Shane held the fourth spot locking himself into Saturday nights finale.
“Any time you’re able to charge from ninth to fourth and lock yourself into tomorrow feature is a good night,” explained Stewart. “Paul and my guys gave me a great car, and I was able to maneuver the ROCKSTAR/Makita car really well through traffic tonight, and hopefully tomorrow the track is a little better and we can be standing in victory lane.”
