Inside Line Promotions – GREENWOOD, Neb. (Sept. 15, 2020) – Alex Hill’s return to racing after an extended layoff was relatively short-lived when she was involved in a hard crash on the opening lap of her qualifier with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour last Saturday night at I-80 Speedway.

Hill was racing to the inside of Lynton Jeffrey in turn three on the first lap when their cars made contact, sending Hill’s car into a series of flips from the inside guardrail almost to the outside wall, where her car landed on its tires and she crawled from it uninjured.

“I’m not really sure what happened,” Hill said. “I had a really good start and was trying to pass Lynton on the inside. I guess it was just a racing deal. I remember closing my eyes when my car started to flip on the bottom of the track and I was surprised when I opened them to see that I landed near the top of the track.

“I had a headache for a while afterwards, but I’m fine now. I was surprised the car wasn’t damaged more because it felt like a pretty hard crash. I figured the frame would be bent, but it wasn’t.”

Hill’s first visit to I-80 Speedway began with a sixth-place finish in her heat race.

“I had kind of a bad start,” she said. “We were in turn three when they told us we were going green and it caught me a bit off guard. But that’s not an excuse because it was the same for everyone.

“I got passed by a couple of cars right away. But as the race went on I got a little more used to the track. I was gaining on the car in front of me and I think I would’ve gotten that spot back if we had one more lap.”

Hill will move on to one of her biggest races this year – the 10th annual Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial this Thursday through Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo.

“I’m excited about racing at Lucas Oil,” she said. “It’s one of my favorite tracks. I wish we raced there more often. There will be a lot of cars there and the racing will be tough. It’s a great event.”
