Inside Line Promotions – WINCHESTER, Va. (Sept. 15, 2020) – Joey Amantea locked up a third-place finish in the wingless micro sprint championship standings at Spirit Auto Center Speedway behind the strength of his 16th top-five finish of the year Friday night.

It served as a prelude to his second career start with the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Wingless Sprint Cars on Saturday, when he finished 13th during his debut at Winchester Speedway.

“I really wanted to get a win this year at Spirit Auto Center Speedway, but overall, it wasn’t a bad week,” he said. “We’ve been so consistent all year and this just further shows how good we can be.”

Amantea kicked off Friday night at the oval in Swedesboro, N.J., where he won a wingless micro sprint heat race from the seventh starting position. He then started eighth in the feature and passed five cars to finish on the podium in the third spot.

“I knew from the early goings of the night we had a good shot at winning with how we ran in the heat,” he said. “We had a shot at second after a late restart, but we just missed it at the line. We came into the night with the goal of third in points and we were able to make that happen.”

He then switched gears and strapped in behind the wheel of the Burke Family Racing No. 54 360ci non-wing sprint car at Winchester Speedway. Amantea advanced one position in a heat race to finish fourth and secure the eighth starting spot in the A Main.

With it being his first career visit to the track and with limited experience behind the wheel in the division, Amantea struggled to adapt to changing track conditions as he finished 13th. However, in two career starts with the series he has yet to finish outside of the top 15.

“I was really good in the heat race, but I struggled with handling in the car during the feature,” he said. “I took a chance in the feature and tried to run the top on the start, but it didn’t work.”

This week Amantea will take part in two nights of wingless micro sprint racing, beginning with his first trip of the season to Shellhamer Dirt Track in Shoemakersville, Pa., on Wednesday before closing out the week at Hamlin Speedway in Hamlin, Pa., on Saturday.

“It’s been over a year since we went out to Shellhamer’s so it’ll be fun to see that place again,” he said. “The goal is to put together two solid nights and hopefully we can add another win to our 2020 total before all is said and done.”
