Inside Line Promotions – NEWMANSTOWN, Pa. (Sept. 9, 2020) – Joey Amantea highlighted three nights of wingless micro sprint competition with a fifth-place finish at Greenwood Valley Action Tracks in Orangeville, Pa., last Saturday night.

He also picked up a sixth-place outing at Spirit Auto Center Speedway in Swedesboro, N.J., on Friday before ending the weekend with a DNF at Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway on Sunday.

“Any time you can race three times in one weekend you’re having a good weekend,” he said. “We had a couple of nice runs and we just continue to show speed almost every time we hit the track.”

Amantea kicked off the weekend on Friday at Spirit Auto Center Speedway by winning a heat race from the pole position. He was awarded the 12th starting spot in the feature via a redraw and fought a loose-handling car to a sixth-place finish at the checkered flag.

“We were having a pretty good run, but my luck wasn’t there for the redraw,” he said. “We keep showing speed there and we’re getting closer to a win, so we’ll take a top-10 finish.”

The next night he headed to Greenwood Valley Action Tracks and for the second consecutive night Amantea won a heat race from the pole. The redraw placed him third on the feature starting grid and after getting caught on the low side of the track early, he fell to seventh before clawing his way back to finish fifth. The top-five run was his 15th of the season.

“We were pretty good and I had a lot of fun out there,” he said. “We fell backwards and had a few great battles out there throwing sliders and we were able to manage a top five.”

Amantea ended the weekend at Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway during the Bud’s Spring Service Labor Day Shootout on Sunday. He finished second in a heat race and sixth in a qualifier before placing second in a B Main to secure a feature starting spot. However, Amantea’s night ended early when he broke an axle.

“I was running around 18th before something broke and I had to pull off the track,” he said. “I literally have never finished a race that I’ve run at Clyde Martin so it’s only fitting that we ended up off track at the end of the night.”

Next up for Amantea will be a trip to Spirit Auto Center Speedway this Friday for the track’s season finale behind the wheel of his wingless micro sprint followed by a sprint car race at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Va., on Saturday with the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Wingless 360 Sprint Cars.

“I’ve gotten to do a lot this season and by far the most enjoyable experience I’ve had so far is running wingless 360 sprint cars,” he said. “I really like the series and the way the cars drive. I’m looking forward to gaining more experience this weekend and building more confidence toward 2021.”
