Inside Line Promotions – ELDON, Mo. (Sept. 9, 2020) – Derek Hagar is the 11th annual LOS 360 Nationals champion after producing a dominating performance last Sunday.
Hagar swept the ASCS Warrior Region finale at Lake Ozark Speedway, winning a heat race and a qualifier before leading all 40 laps of the $5,000-to-win main event.
“It was a late night both nights,” he said. “I was kind of worried because I was getting worn out. Once I strapped the helmet on and cranked the motor I was ready to go.
“We got a good start and ran the bottom a couple of laps in turns one and two. It went away really quick. I started moving around and found a good lane that worked for me. In turns three and four I ran the top pretty much the whole race. Once the bottom went away in turns one and two I started diamonding the corner.”
The victory was Hagar’s sixth of the season and his fourth in sprint car competition during only 11 starts this year.
“It’s definitely the biggest one of my year and in my career it’s probably the second best paying one,” he said. “We won a $10,000 show a few years ago, but this $5,000 on Sunday was our second best.”
The event was a work in progress that began on Saturday. Hagar advanced from seventh to fifth place in a heat race and from ninth to fifth place in a qualifier before rallying from 14th to seventh in the A Main.
“Saturday night started out as a struggle,” Hagar said. “The track was a little different than times in the past and we had a bad pill draw. We didn’t pass many cars in the heat race so that set us up in the back row of a qualifier. We earned enough points to make it into the feature. The track started coming around and we were able to go from 14th to seventh. We didn’t have as many cautions as we needed. We needed to bunch the field back up a couple more times to try to get more cars.”
Hagar will ride the momentum from his strong weekend into a show at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., this Saturday with the ASCS Mid-South Region and ASCS Lone Star Region.
