Dakota Dillin Avoids Disaster to Win a Doozy in POWRi RMLS Feature

Belleville, IL. (09/09/2020) Heading into the final stretch of feature races for the POWRi Lucas Oil Rocky Mountain Lightning Sprint Series the late-season surge in search of season points remains in full effect for those drivers chasing a championship crown. Racing non-wing for the final time in 2020, Saturday, September 5th would be one of the more memorable races of the season at I-76 Speedway. With an opening lap debacle leaving over half the field out early, Dakota Dillin would evade the carnage to capture his second series victory this year.

Flying into the first corners of I-76 Speedway can be tricky when multiple eager racers are all going for the same real estate with red flag conditions plaguing the start of the feature on Saturday night with the POWRi RMLS. Side-lining several competitors without a single green-flag lap completed, a complete double-file restart would see seven drivers retired to the pit area unharmed but with their spirits dejected.

After the cleanup was complete and feature racing underway, Dakota Dillin #39 would take to the front early proving to have a fast non-wing hot-rod on the night. Checking out on the field to grab his second checkers on the season Dillion becomes just the second driver in the series, besides Johnny Boos with five, to earn multiple features wins this year.

The previous week’s feature winner #86 Jenn Woods continues to show her talents with a solid second-place showing. Blair Cooper #32 and #21 BJ Sauer would be in a highly contested battle for most of the race with Cooper gaining speed late to notch a podium finish leaving Sauer to end the night placing fourth, Ryan Radar #44 rounded out the feature event’s top five finishers.

Up next for the POWRi Lucas Oil Rocky Mountain Lightning Sprint Series is a primetime doubleheader. First on Friday, September 11th Honor Speedway, in Pueblo, Colorado will host their final lightning sprint competition of the season. Pit Gates open at 4 PM with racing action slated for 7 PM. Then, on Saturday. September 12th the winged feature racers will take center stage in the penultimate event of the RMLS season championship at El Paso County Raceway in Calhan, Colorado. Pit gates open at 2 PM with Saturday’s racing program having an earlier start time of 5 PM.
