Belleville, IL. (09/07/2020) A two-day demonstration of speed with the POWRi Lucas Oil Midwest Lightning Sprints would launch to the racing surface of Central Missouri Speedway for the first time this season. Battling for feature victories and a Labor Day Weekend point-fund for the top-three overall drivers from the events, twenty of the top lightning sprint regional talents would tackle the fast Warrensburg Missouri bullring. After hard-fought battles up-front in both events Chase Fischer #22 would find glory Saturday, September 5th as Mark Billings would earn the checkers on Sunday, September 6th’s feature event.
Combining points from the separate racing programs on Saturday and Sunday the POWRi Midwest Lightning Sprint competitors would have an extra incentive on the line as Crest Motorsports and Rod End Supply would put additional sponsorship money on the line. Tom Brown #b20 would prove consistency wins championships, earning the weekend point battle by eight points over Chase Fischer. Fischer and Brown would seem to adapt well to the smooth CMS surface with both drivers placing inside the top five both nights. Ken Billings #85 would also earn the additional bonus by rounding out the weekend’s point-battling podium. Special Thank You goes out to Earl and Susan Walls for inviting the POWRi Midwest Lightning Sprints to participate in the Labor Day weekend racing at their premier facility, ramping up the excitement for a return visit in the upcoming seasons.
Both racing nights would have fast lap-times with outstanding battling for nearly every position. Saturdays heat racing action would be won by Tom Brown #b20, Ken Billings #85, and Mark Billings #51; while Sunday’s early competitions would see Dave Hammons #00 earn a heat race victory, with the duo of Brown and Mark Billings doubling down on heat wins for the weekend.
Central Missouri Speedway would not disappoint in the smoothness of the racing surface on Saturday, September 5th with the POWRi MLS. Young standout wheelman Chase Fischer #22 would win the night from an inside second-row starting spot. Up-on-the-wheel for all twenty laps Fischer would claim his third win of the 2020 lightning sprints season. Series point leader Stanley Kreisel #18 would earn the feature’s hard charger award bypassing his way to up the runner up finishing spot from starting ninth. Showing great poise and patience, Chasity Younger #10 would be among the front runners all weekend, rounding out the podium finishers on the first or two racing nights.
Back in fine form the following night at the speedway Warrensburg Missouri raceway, the POWRi Midwest Lightning Sprints would see Mark Billings #51 earn his second series victory in 2020. Billings would have his hand’s full all night, from starting third on the feature to gaining the lead early Mark would never give up his speedy racing line. Fighting for the weekend points championship, Tom Brown and previous night’s winner Chase Fischer would round out the event’s top three with Brown gaining the runner-up spot and Labor Day Weekend MLS Championship over a fast Fischer. Ken Billings #85 and Danny Johnson #51x would both have solid top-five showings with Ken fourth and Johnson fifth.
One of the most highly anticipated events is next up on the season schedule for the POWRi Lucas Oil Midwest Lighting Sprints in the first-ever series appearance at the newly opened K.C. Raceway in Independence, Missouri. Saturday, September 12th the MLS will attempt to tame one of the fastest-smoothest one-fifth-mile racing surfaces around. Pit Gates Open at 1 PM with driver’s registration slotted from 3-5 PM. Hot laps kick off at 6 PM as the racing action kicks into high gear following opening ceremonies.
