Inside Line Promotions – MONETT, Mo. (Aug. 25, 2020) – Jeffrey West Jr. has climbed to third in the ASCS Mid-South Region championship standings during his first season behind the wheel of a sprint car.

“I wouldn’t have thought that I’d be in this position at the beginning of the year,” he said. “It’s exceeding our expectations. This year we’re still focusing on learning and getting things figured out.”

A race last Saturday provided the most recent opportunity to grow as West Jr. invaded Monett Motor Speedway for the first time.

“We definitely struggled a good bit,” he said. “It was a new track and I had never been on a 3/8 mile before. As far as my driving went I felt like I adapted to the track fairly quickly. I was pretty comfortable on it. The main thing was setup-wise and knowing what to do on a big track like that when it slicks off.”

West Jr. placed seventh in a heat race, which lined him up on the outside of the 10th row for the A Main.

“For the first five or 10 laps the car was really hooked up,” he said. “I got up to ninth place at one point on the fourth or fifth lap. Then I got shuffled back. The track slicked off and the car handling changed. We ran around 15th for the last half of the race.”

West Jr. finished 15th, which was his fourth top 15 of the season.

“The main thing is we have a better idea of where to start on a 3/8-mile track,” he said. “We had literally never experienced that before. Something we thought would work ended up not working. We weren’t fast in the feature, but we were way better than we were in hot laps and the heat race. There were some positives to take away from it.”

The next ASCS Mid-South Region race is this Saturday at I-30 Speedway. West Jr. earned his best result at the track with a 14th-place outing during his most recent visit.
