DODGE CITY, Kansas (August 22, 2020) – The Lucas Oil POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing took to the finale of Dodge City Raceway Park’s Lubbock Wrecker Service Sprint Car Nationals on Saturday night. Jake Bubak claimed his second Sprint Car Nationals Championship after prevailing from a three-car battle to lead the final five circuits of the 30-lap feature event and earning $5,170 for the three day weekend.
The Hambelton Racing Dash for Cash saw the top-six in combined points from Thursday and Friday’s preliminary events duel for a starting position in the first three rows of the big dance on Saturday night. Lincoln, Nebraska’s Jason Martin used the high-side to make a pass on Bubak to win the Dash for Cash, earning him the pole starting position and an extra $300.
Martin and Bubak set the pace for the 30-lap feature event. Jason Martin took advantage of the pole position, snagging the lead ahead of Bubak and United Rebel Sprint Series points leader, Zach Blurton. A caution flew over the field on lap 7 for Monty Ferriera. The restart saw Blurton advance to second before snagging the lead from Martin on lap 10. Bubak slid into second just past the halfway point, but Martin prevailed and claimed the lead back from Blurton.
Bubak remained in contention and snagged the lead from Martin on lap 25. Martin would continue to challenge for the lead, but time would run out. Jake Bubak went on to win his second consecutive Sprint Car Nationals at Dodge City Raceway Park. Jason Martin settled for second, while United Rebel Sprint Series driver, Zach Blurton, completed the top-three finishers on Saturday. Taylor Velasquez and Jordan Knight, both United Rebel Sprint Series drivers, rounded out the top-five.
Luke Cranston would earn the Keizer Wheels Hard Charger award starting from his fifteenth starting position to finish ninth and also picked up an extra $500 bonus courtesy of Steve Hilker Trucking.
Next up for the Mel Hambelton Ford Racing POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series drivers is Salina Speedway on September 11th. Drivers will then head south to 81 Speedway in Wichita, Kansas on September 12th.
