DODGE CITY, Kansas (August 21, 2020) – Forty cars entered into competition on Friday night for the second preliminary night of the Fourth Annual Sprint Car Nationals at Dodge City Raceway Park with the United Rebel Sprint Series. Lucas Oil POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing point leader, Zach Blurton, claimed the victory when apparent winner, John Carney II, was disqualified during post-race inspections.
It was Carney and Blake Scott setting the pace for the 25-lap feature event on Friday night. Scott took off with the early lead, but by the second time around the track Carney had advanced to the lead. Scott would battle to keep the second position, dueling with Zach Blurton and Chase Randall.
Thursday night’s preliminary feature winner, Jake Bubak, worked his way through the field from a 10th place starting position. A restart on lap 15 saw Blurton rocket past Bubak, Randall, and Scott.
Blurton would claim Friday’s preliminary feature win after a disqualification of the original winner, locking him into Saturday’s finale Hambelton Racing Dash for Cash. Arvada, Colorado’s Jake Bubak claimed second, and Chase Randall third. Jason Martin battled through the field after transferring from the second B-Feature and starting 18th to finish fourth, while Blake Scott rounded out the top-five.
United Rebel Sprint Series drivers, Taylor Velasquez, Jordan Knight, and Steven Richardson finished sixth through eighth. Jake Martens and Vance Wofford would complete the top-ten finishers in Friday’s preliminary feature event.
The top six in combined points from Thursday and Friday’s preliminary events sees all regulars with the United Rebel Sprint Series. Jake Bubak leads the combined points for Saturday’s finale Dash for Cash. Blurton follows behind by 16.5 points, while Jason Martin, Taylor Velasquez, Jordan Knight, and Jeremy Huish found themselves also locked into the Dash for Cash, setting the first three rows of the $3,000-to-win feature event on Saturday.
