Inside Line Promotions – PERU, Ind. (Aug. 19, 2020) – Brenham Crouch enjoyed a career-best weekend behind the wheel of a Keith Kunz Motorsports midget.
Crouch won a heat race during USAC Midwest Regional Midget Series competition on Friday at Paragon Speedway in Paragon and on Saturday at Circus City Speedway. He then capped each night by overcoming an incident in the feature to record strong results.
“We did really good in the heats,” he said. “The first night I was able to roll the bottom through the marbles. I went from eighth to win. The second night it was all about keeping your momentum up; just open your entry and keep the wheel speed up so you don’t push. We won that from the pole.”
The heat race victories earned Crouch a spot into the feature redraw each night. He started the main event at Paragon Speedway on the outside of the third row.
“We had a couple of double-file restarts and we were able to move our way into the top five,” he said. “Then two cars got together in front of me and I had nowhere to go. I got on the brakes and turned right to miss, but our car stalled so we had to come from the back.”
Crouch overcame the incident to rally from the back of the field to 11th, which was his career-best result in a midget.
He had similar misfortune while again contending for a top five in the feature on Saturday at Circus City Speedway.
“I started third and led three or four laps,” he said. “Kaylee (Bryson) got by me and we had a restart. Daison (Pursley) and (Emerson) Axsom got by me. I was reeling Axsom back in when I went to slide a lapped car. My nose got chopped and I spun it around to try to keep the car from stalling, but it didn’t work out.”
The incident with four laps remaining relegated Crouch from his top five to the back of the field. He rebounded in the closing laps to place 13th, which tied his second-best result in a midget.
Crouch is heading to Illinois this weekend as he’ll do double duty during a trio of nights, racing both a midget for Keith Kunz Motorsports and a winged outlaw micro sprint for his family team on Friday at Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, on Saturday at Macon Speedway in Macon and on Sunday at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville.
