Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 18, 2020) – A 14th-place run by Jason Sides last Thursday highlighted the weekend at Knoxville Raceway for Sides Motorsports.

Sides and Tim Kaeding teamed up to run The One and Only and the 9th annual Brownells Capitani Classic presented by Great Southern Bank with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series at the half-mile oval, where approximately 70 drivers competed during the event that replaced this year’s Knoxville Nationals.

“We didn’t qualify real well, but that put us on the front row for a heat race during both preliminary nights,” Sides said. “You had to win that to make the feature. If you didn’t it went back to your points. The first night we won the heat race.”

The heat race victory locked Sides into the main event on Thursday. He then maneuvered from 20th to 14th in the A Main.

“The second night we didn’t qualify real well again,” he said. “We led the heat race for awhile and then Sheldon (Haudenschild) got by. That put us 14th in the B Main.”

Sides’ night ended in the consolation race on Friday. He gained a position in a qualifier on Saturday to place fifth, which was one spot out of locking into the main event. That lined him up fourth in the B Main.

“We had a really good chance at making it,” he said. “We raced hard with Kerry Madsen for fourth, especially at the end. That allowed (Donny) Schatz to get by both of us. We slid back after that when we missed the bottom and it let two or three cars go by the very last lap.”

Sides was in a torrid battle for the fourth-and-final transfer spot throughout the B Main before he ended eighth.

Kaeding narrowly missed transferring into the main event during all three of the nights. He placed ninth, seventh and seventh, respectively, in the B Mains.

“We didn’t really get a handle on it until the last race on Saturday,” Sides said. “He went 13th to seventh in that race and was really good.”

Sides plans on heading north to race with the World of Outlaws this Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., during the Second Leg of the Northern Tour and Saturday at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, N.D., during the Red River Rumble.
