Sams III Soaks Up Lessons on the Road During Busy Week in the Midwest

Inside Line Promotions – SAPULPA, Okla. (Aug. 18, 2020) – Danny Sams III is back in Florida as Sams LaMountain Racing focuses on revamping its program following a learning experience throughout the ASCS Sprint Week presented by Smiley’s Racing Products.

Sams III participated in the first four rounds of the six-race spectacle last week before mechanical woes sent the team home early.

“We’re thinking it was electrical problems that hampered us,” he said. “We’ve sent some stuff back and are working to remedy everything before the next ASCS event in September.”

Three of the four tracks were new for Sams III and the fourth track marked only his second career visit. Therefore, Sams III noted, it was good to get laps on different tracks and surfaces to help as he adjusts to his first year of racing on the road.

Unfortunately, a new setup hampered the team throughout the week.

“We were trying a new setup and it just wasn’t working for us,” Sams III said. “We struggled at the beginning of each night. We couldn’t get the car to act right with the things we were trying.”

Sams III did move forward in the B Main last Tuesday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., and Wednesday at Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan. He finished sixth and fifth, respectively, to narrowly miss transferring into the main event.

The best run came on Thursday at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., where Sams III picked up a transfer position in the B Main and he gained four spots in the feature to finish 16th.

“Going into the B Main we went back to our normal setup and we were a lot faster,” he said. “By that time it was too little too late.”

Sams III was putting together his strongest night of the week on Friday at Creek County Speedway. Unfortunately, the car wouldn’t refire after a red flag when Sams III was running second in a heat race. That ended the week early.

The team hopes to find a race in the next few weeks, but the next official event is Sept. 12 at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. Sams III ranks 11th in the championship standings, but is only 10 points out of the top 10.
