(Bill W) July 19, 2011 – The Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders embark on a two-race weekend this Friday and Sunday night! On Friday, they’ll hit the Bloomfield Speedway in conjunction with the Davis Count Fair in Bloomfield, Iowa. Sunday finds the series returning for the 2nd Annual Kitchen Cooked Sprint Car Summer Shootout at the high-banked ¼-mile Peoria Speedway in Peoria, Illinois.
The Sprint Invaders have not visited the high speed Bloomfield Speedway since 2007, when “Showtime” Kaley Gharst swept two events there. Jerrod Hull took the only other series’ event there in 2005. Last season’s event was washed out. The 305 sprints will run for $500 in support of the Invaders.
Locals are still talking about last year’s Kitchen Cooked Sprint Car Summer Shootout in Peoria. Kaley Gharst and “Flyin’” Ryan Jamison battled the length of the non-stop event before Gharst emerged victorious. It was the series’ first appearance in Peoria since Jamison won in 2006. Bobby Mincer (2004) and Jerrod Hull (2005) are other Peoria winners.
Justin Parrish still sits atop a hotly contested point race! The top three in the standings remained after the event at Cedar County Raceway last Thursday, but things are tightening. Parrish’s lead is just three points over Mincer, with Matt Sutton just nine points back. Jamison and Gharst round out the top five in the standings heading into a weekend that will shake things up even more!
Hot laps in Bloomfield on Friday are scheduled for 7:00 p.m., with racing to follow. Grandstands open at 6:00, with admission just $12 for adults and $5 for children 6-12. Five and under are FREE!
